Favorite iPad apps and services

This page will list several apps that I use and rely on with my iPad. I get asked quite a bit about what apps I find important or useful, so I have decided to list them here.

The list is short today, but I will slowly add my complete list in the next few days.

You need an app to open/view/edit popular office documents, PDF files and Images. QuickOffice does just that and does it well. Also supports DropBox, and Google Docs. Very responsive, and works well with the popular Microsoft Office documents well. QuickOffice is available on most other popular mobile devices also.

DropBox is a great service that allows you to share your files between multiple devices and computers easily. With the DropBox app on my iPad, anything I place in DropBox on my computer is available on my iPad. so easy, and you can even create a website URl to share files with others outside of DropBox. Free for the first 2gigs of storage, then pay services for more storage or advanced features.

SpringPad is an online service that gives you a place to quickly and easily save anything you want to remember. Take a note, create a task, scan a product barcode and look up the book your friend mentioned. The best part is that no matter where you are, Springpad is there with you to make sure you don't forget something worth remembering. Works on multiple devices and from your web browser, this is one service I use to on my iPad, can access the same data on my smartphone, and access from any web browser. This is a must-have. The more I use SpringPad, the more I rely on it.

iZip

iZip is a utility to open and extract zip files. The iPad doesn't do well for sharing files across apps, but iZip does a decent job of handling zip files for you.

Mocha VNC

If you are looking for a good VNC client, then Mocha VNC should be the one. So many in the app store cost a small fortune and will not do anything any better. If you need a VNC client for your iPad, then Mocha VNC will work just fine.

Companionlink for Google

If you are needing to sync your Outlook to your mobile device, I recommend Companionlink for Google. Use Companionlink to sync to Google, then have Google set your iPhone or iPad to sync to the same Google account. Much better than Apple's iCloud service, which is like playing Russian Roulette with your data (You have been warned).
